my Easter dilemma

okay, so I was talking to Jen yesterday and we were talking about the "Easter bunny". I am not into telling my kids that this bunny will come and leave them treats/toys in a basket. I guess I just don't understand the concept. But most people (I think) do that for their kids. Am I a bad mom b/c I don't teach my kids about the "Easter bunny"? I would rather just leave them treats in baskets and take all the credit for myself. We definitely do egg hunts and egg dying, but that is about it I guess. I am wondering if whoever reads this blog, can let me know their Easter traditions. I guess I am looking for some ideas. And I am also wondering if I am the only one out there that doesn't tell their kids about the "Easter bunny". Should I?

Janelle, I kindof feel the same way. Our kids know about the easter bunny and it does come to our house and leave eggs. But when they really start asking me detailed questions I feel a little weird. I mean it's a huge ridiculous lie and I do not go into details with them. I just say I don't really know much about the easter bunny and change the subject. I mean, it is a silly tradition with no point that I can think of.

lol! d-you are funny. that is my hang up too when they start asking some heavy questions...like where is he from...is it a boy or girl bunny...these are a few that audrey has asked me and i totally just look at her blankly.

I don't think you are a bad mom at all Janelle! I don't remember my parents making a big deal about the easter bunny either. We had the egg hunts in Sue's park and my parents would leave us a little basket with a new spring/summer outfit but they didn't tell us it was from the easter bunny. They told us it was from them. I am a little afraid of the easter bunny! It is a little bit of a wierd tradition!

I am kindof scared of the giant bunny myself! One year, Dave was asked to dress up as the easter bunny for a primary activity. The costume they gave him had tons of foam inside the mask that was breaking off and he was totally coughing and inhaling foam the whole time! It was sick. Another reason I don't love the easter bunny. That nasty costume. Sorry to leave another comment.

Our parents told me about the Easter bunny when I was little. They would say things during the easter egg like, "He just barely left all of this stuff here for you guys and hopped away." I remember never really getting into it. I would quickly forget about the easter bunny. I was only into Santa Clause and the tooth fairy.

I tell my kids the same thing I tell them about Santa- they can believe what they want. I just feel too guilty. I don't want to lie to my kids! Kam knows santa isn't real but every Christmas, Skyler tries to ask me all these detailed questions and when I reply with "you can believe what you want" he asks me if i believe and tells me he doesn't really think it makes sense but he wants presents- I'll have to see how they feel about the easter bunny- who does come to our house and we hunt for eggs but I try not to make a really big deal about- it's just another holiday for the kids to eat way too much sick candy!
