my latest pet peeve

There is something about a man that is too sculpted, too frosted, too plucked, too layered, that just creeps me out. I just do not understand it. Men should not be "pretty." Don't get me wrong. ...clean, well groomed men are definitely awesome, but I think there is a line that is crossed w/the men pictured above. I don't understand the "rocker" that wears eyeliner. I mean, how "hard core" can you be, how "tough" can you be, if your eyeliner or mascara needs a touch up?

Please, men, no more over-tweezed, sculpted eyebrows or other facial hair....no more highlights, no more "jennifer aniston" hair cuts....and please no more eyeliner!

my seedlings

I get super happy and excited when I see a seed pop out of the dirt. I feel like I have accomplished something. I feel like I want to take care of it and nourish it. I feel sad when it is attacked by my kids. It was such a nice day yesterday, I planted most of my garden and I am ready for all the free-vegetables!

my boy

This picture of a nuclear power plant was on the front page of our illustrious local newspaper. Reese saw the picture and said..."I want to go to this park! and go down that slide!!"

my windstorm

Wind is not my favorite right now. Won't it go away? What is the point of the constant barrage? and Why is it seemingly always windy here in K-town? Chicago is the windy city???? I think we should have dibs on that title.
Reasons why the wind is not my favorite today....
itchy, watery eyes.

hair in my face, constantly, so I cannot see, itching my face, becoming a tangled mess etc.

the wind kicking up all the miles and miles of dust here ....
This is the name of the local baseball team and their mascot...need I say more.
I need a break from this wind!

my teeth

Thank you mom and dad for your wonderful genes....no, I am not talking about my good looks (which are apparent), I am talking about my teeth. One of my teeth was feeling sore, so I made an appointment with a dentist. Assuming it was a cavity that could be taken care of I went in to the appointment....but, much to my surprise, it WAS NOT a cavity. It was a nerve issue due to my recent sinus problems. I had NO cavities. Now, this might not be amazing to some of you, but it is pretty amazing to me. I haven't had a cavity since I got my braces off (about 14 years ago). Now this amazes me because I am not a very diligent teeth cleaner. I do not have a fancy toothbrush, just one from the dollar store. I go to the dentist once every year if I am not pregnant....then it is longer. I floss my teeth MAYBE 4 times in a year and I eat about 100 pounds of sugar in a year. The only attention and care I put into my teeth is brushing them in the morning and before bed. Twice a day...that is it. Is that all it takes? Considering how little I worry about my teeth, I was just very surprised. So, thank you mom and dad, I can only attribute my teeth success to your superior genetics.

Here is a list of movies that made me feel slightly afraid, dismal, dreary, uneasy, unnerved, etc. etc. , when I was a young person. I know that I was suppose to enjoy them, and I did for the most part. But there was always a scene or two...or maybe a bizarre character, that just made me feel the darkness of the movie too much. And now as I watch these movies again as an adult, the murkiness, the disorder of these movies, hits me like a wave, and I start to feel uneasy, all over again...why are some "children's" movies so creepy!!??

1. Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory

2. Alice in Wonderland

3. Labyrinth

4. Wizard of Oz

5. Never ending story

my buddies

This is one of Reese's friends....we want to adopt him.

my savage warriors

I made a "job chart" for Audrey and Reese. This requires effort on my part, reminding them to do their jobs and to mark that they did it. I have 1 month worth of jobs for each of them to complete, jobs like, making bed, clearing dishes etc....that sort of thing. So they finally completed their charts and I told them that we could go pick out a small little toy for all their "hard work". Audrey of course picked a cutesie Disney baby princes, but, much to my dismay, Reese, picked out the most horrifying toy at Big Lots. He fell in love with these hideous figurines called "savage warriors", complete with catapult, deadly swords, crossbow, and chains. I was secretly cringing on the inside. I mean, they had multiple heads, bloody eyes, skulls....But, he was so proud of himself, I tried to convince him to get a Superman ball, a Batman figurine...but he was set on these fierce beasts. I finally relented, after all, I did tell them they could choose what they wanted (as long as it was within our price range.) And he was so happy to carry it out, and he was so excited to show dad. He brought them home and they had a tea party with the baby princesses....
What happened to this guy????

my bathtime battles

Why are my children afraid of the bath tub? Why do they cry and yell if the tiniest drop of water runs close to an eye? Audrey and Reese love bath time...until it is time to rinse the soap out of their hair, then they turn into 2 screaming monkeys. They won't sit still, they try to jump out of the tub. I have tried to convince Audrey that she is a mermaid....she isn't buying it. Sadie is the opposite of these two. She wants to lay down and stay down. If she slips under the water she bobs back up without so much as a squeak. I do watch her with my eagle eye.
It usually comes down to me, holding the shower handle while hosing them off from head to toe, while they yell for a towel and stomp around and cause a ridiculous fuss. Has anyone heard of water boarding??

Here is evidence of Reese, jumping into the deep end w/a huge smile on his face...but there is something about the bathtub. I don't know what it is.

my husband

What can I say, I do have a great husband. He tries so hard to understand what will make me happy. He really tries to work on our realationship and really wants to make it better. (not that it is bad, its great!) He did a great job for me on my birthday. He got up early and decorated the kitchen area, bought breakfast, and had little presents hid all over the house. It was very thoughtful and I really enjoyed it. I got to take a nap (which was #1 on my birthday wish list) and I didn't change any poopy diapers or do any cooking. Michael got me a new phone, which I love! I appreciate all that he does, he works hard for us. I think I got lucky~

my sharkie

So, I bought this shark toy for Reese. I thought it was just a bath toy, but it turns out it is an expandable shark?! You keep it in water and it expands or grows up to 600% larger than its original size. WHAT? What is this beast made out of?
So, we put it in a vase of water, and it has indeed, been growing. Reese insists that it is his pet "sharkie". Every morning Audrey and Reese want to check and see how much their pet sharkie has grown.

I just worry that one morning we will wake up to find this....
